What happened to the kids? [ Those are fantastic first words, Emma, but it's a valid question. Why? In the past couple of hours since she's arrived she's looked through the communicator logs, and from suddenly seeing lots of kids to there now being none? Weird. Very suspicious. Someone's in Good Guy mode already (always) ]

And why were they here? I didn't think that would happen. [ Not that she really knows a lot, minus her own deal with the Admiral. Would he do that? Well, Gold probably would, or not, she doesn't know, but she's suspicious. She doesn't like deals, not when there are things that could be magic involved. And kids. Protect the kids ]

Right. [ Moving on. Slowly. She didn't actually introduce herself, did she? ] I'm Emma, and hopefully I've figured this out and I'm not just talking to myself. [ It is very likely to happen ]

I guess being new is obvious, and I'm a Warden. [ One day this all may (fully) sink in ] As for this? I know what I'm doing. I've actually done it before [ Kind of ] so just... keep that in mind. [ Yeah. This is turning out to be the worst introduction. Way to go, Emma! ]

[ A little later in the day you may be lucky enough to run into one Emma Swan. Or at least a blonde woman that looks pretty lost. Or confused. It's actually both. The kids were, uh. Actually most of the people here. Welcome to the Barge, sometimes we have floods that involve no water but turn us into kids, or animals, or different people.

So... magic? [ Those words actually sound pretty awkward coming from her, and she's not sure what happened to make them be said with some ease (as compared to never) ]

Approximately twice every month, the Barge experiences an event known as a "flood", wherein the inhabitants experience changes, which can be and often are physical in nature. The one we experienced before your arrival reduced many of the wardens and inmates to children, but as the Admiral announced the flood waters have receded, everyone should be their normal selves once more.

Why flood? [ That's it, pick up on the most irrelevant thing you could. It's a slight coping thing ] I get what does this [ No, she doesn't ] but that isn't a warning.

I am unfamiliar with the specific origins of the term, as applied here, but I assume given that the leading theory of how and why they occur is that the ship is momentarily brushing against the fabric of another world, certain characteristics of that reality "flood" the ship temporarily.

It's not completely obvious at first, he's not wearing his chainmail or the red cloak with the Pendragon crest on the shoulder or his crown that makes him look like the Burger King, just a simple red linen shirt and brown pants. He's actually something of a gentleman to new people now, which is several steps up from the spoiled prince he used to be and so when he turns the corner and there's a lost looking woman, he feels compelled to help.]

[Merlin is, in fact, on his way out of the dining hall and carrying a mug of hot chocolate when he encounters Emma on the stairwell. She's new - there's a very, very slight ping of recognition in the back of his mind that he will later track to a flood that turned Jim Kirk into his mother - and she has the look about her of someone who's still getting the lie of the land.

He smiles, cheerful and friendly.]
